Brooksie Harrington
Brooksie Harrington, Professor of English at Fayetteville State University, is a National Endowment of Humanities Scholar. Harrington has dedicated his academic and personal career to specializing in African American literature, and the aesthetics of African American music. His study of Shirley Caesar: A Woman of Words, analyzes the verbal artistry of world renown, "First Lady of Gospel," Reverend Shirley Caesar.

Harrington serves as advisor to the Award-winning 50-member Fayetteville State University Gospel Choir, which performs regularly in the United States. Under his leadership the choir produced a recording with Gospel Icon Dorothy Norwood. The Gospel Choir's CD Entitled "CELEBRATE" brings national prominence. The aesthetic vision and energetic talent of this choir places them in a unique category that few college choirs have yet to attain.
Harrington agit à titre de conseiller pour le primé chœur gospel, de 50 membres, de la Fayetteville State University, qui se produit régulièrement sur la côte Est des États-Unis. As a visiting scholar, Dr. Brooksie Harrington conducted intensive sessions on the voice in Gospel music through the spirit and womanist influence and the Gospel aesthetics of Shirley Caesar at York University. His residency included a Vocal Master Class and lecture demonstrations.

In the fiery first months of America’s civil rights movement, waves of young people rode buses into the heart of the Deep South. Many were imprisoned in Mississippi’s notorious Parchman Farm Penitentiary. To help them endure their imprisonment the riders invented a pastime inspired by popular radio programs of the day: The Parchman Hour. With characters such as Stokely Carmichael, Martin Luther King, Jr., soulful gospel and freedom songs, and the life-changing power of the civil rights movement, The Parchman Hour honors an important piece of history.
